PTI January Blog Hop & Stenciled Day 1 project #1

So the January Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Challenge is Pretty in Pink and I used the inspiration from the Online Card Class that I am taking, Stenciled.  I have hyperlinked both so you can go check them out for yourself.  This is the first online card class I have taken and I am really enjoying it.  They post videos in the morning and you can post your projects to the gallery.  This class started yesterday (yes, Friday, while I was at work) and the last videos will be published on Monday (again, yes, while I am at work).  Good news though is you have lifetime access to these videos.  The gallery on the other hand is only open until 2/3/14 and they are giving away random prizes to students from the projects posted.  No-brainer there to post projects!
Because the class is about using stencils, which I do own a collection of, I still decided to make another one.  I took the Happy Hexagons cover plate from Papertrey Ink and ran it through my Cuttlebug with stencil material.  Well that didn't work but it got close.  I sat here for probably 30 minutes hand cutting along the oh so close to cut indentations and viola I have a stencil of my cover plate.

I am completely horrible at photography but that is indeed two shades of pink.  The ink is Ranger Distress Ink by Tim Holtz in Victorian Velvet and Spun Sugar.  The paper is PTI cardstock in White and Autumn Rose (matches great with the Victorian Velvet).  The velum is from my stash and I have stamped on it with Happy Birthday from the Birthday Bash Sentiments also from PTI.  I embellished with Darcie Iridescent Sequins and the bow is We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy floss in the color Princess.

Keeping up with my theme for this year of using things I own but have not yet used - I have never used the distress inks and the sequins.  It feels so good to use items from your stash.

PTI Make It Monday #149 - Glitter Embellishments, take 2

When I did my first project for this challenge, located here, the other night I didn't think I had colored glitter so I used clear and colored it with Copics which worked great but something was nagging at me that I had color glitter somewhere so I went searching and low and behold I found it.

Since Florida is just now starting to have colder weather (I am not bragging about it; it just happens to be true) I have been in the mood for hot chocolate.  I filled a mason jar up with a mix to give away and created this tag using Heart-2-Heart #1 die and stamp set.  Looks like I need to add some more marshmallows to this jar.  I will be printing out the mixing instructions soon on the printer and adhering it to the back of the tag.

The cardstock is Recollections Kraft stamped with PTI Background Basics: Text Styles in Classic Kraft Ink.  The die is cut with the die from the set three times from PTI Vintage Cream cardstock.  I stamped the cup in Dark Chocolate ink on all three.  The first is the base.  The second one I cut down to just the cup/lid and used 1/8" Scor-Tape to create stripes.  I covered the whole thing with strips of tape leaving the backing on the top side, then I pulled it off one at a time and alternated between Martha Stewart Brownstone, Fire Opal and Yellow Gold glitter.  I backed it by running it through my Xyron X sticker maker and attached it to the base.  Then I fussy cut just the cup lid from the third cup, used the X again and adhered that on top.  I popped it up on the tag.  The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamps Love This set stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  The tag top was rounded with my corner chomper and the hole was punched with my Crop-a-dile.  The string is Lawn Fawn Gold Sparkle Hemp Cord.
Thanks for looking!  Comments are much appreciated.

PTI Make It Monday #149: Glitter Embellishments

When I started working on this card on Monday for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday #149 - Glitter Embellishments challenge I didn't think I had colored glitter but now that I am posting this I believe I was mistaken so I might take another gander at this challenge before the week is out but that is a might.  I am signed up for an online card class this weekend so I might be more busy than I realize right now.
Check out Nichole's blog here and watch the video by Heather for this weeks inspiration.

Since I didn't think I had colored glitter I followed all of the same instructions from the video except I covered the entire die cut with Prisma Ultra Fine Palette Stamp & Stick glitter and then colored them with Copic markers (E19, YR07, YR68, Y18, Y04).  I used the Beautiful Blooms II #3 die collection for the flowers, the sentiment is from Congrats All Ways set.  My color for ink is Summer Sunrise and the paper is PTI white & Lemon Tart.
I don't photograph things well so I tried to get a close up of the flowers and all of that sparkle below:

My sister-in-law recently had an interview for a job in her degree field so I hope to get to mail this to her very soon; fingers crossed.  Thanks for looking!

CAS(E) this Sketch! #60

I am cranking out some challenge completion posts tonight (#2 of 3).  Over at CAS(E) this Sketch! (here) challenge number 60 is the sketch below:
Keeping with my other challenge to start using the wonderful stamps that come in the Simon Says Stamps card kits I used the large heart balloon, string and one of the sentiments from their January kit stamp set called "Only Have Eyes for You".

The stripe paper is also from the January Kit.  My ink for the heart is Papertrey Ink Scarlet Jewel, the balloon string is Soft Stone (my current favorite neutral) and the sentiment is stamped in Versafine Black Onyx.  The solid red paper and the card base are PTI also (white, Scarlet Jewel).  I used glossy accents on the heart balloon.

CAS-ual Fridays: CFC126 - Color Blocks

New year, more challenges completed (check), more entries posted to my blog (check)...well almost 100%.  I did complete CAS-ual Fridays CFC125 last week but I never posted it (see below) so I was determined to complete AND post 126.
This challenge can be found here.   Show your skills using blocks of color on your Clean and Simple creation using any products you would like.  I enhanced my challenge by making myself use the Simon Says Stamps January 2014 card kit stamp set 'Only Have Eyes for You'.  I have been getting the kits for a few months and love them all but I rarely use them.  That is going to change this year!!

I used white Canson watercolor paper and cut it in 1"x1" squares.  I stamped the small heart from the stamp set in Versamark ink on 4 squares and used Martha Stewart white embossing powder.  I then stamped the sentiment 'OMG IheartU' on the last square with the same technique and supplies.  I used four shades of Papertrey Ink ink (Sweet Blush, Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz and Pure Poppy) to watercolor paint the squares.  I really need a new paper cutter blade so the edges are really rough so I decided to round the corners.  The card base is also PTI, White Stamper Select.
Below is the card I created for challenge 125 that I never posted.  The theme on that one was 'in a word'.   Instead of a resolution, choose a word that describes what you hope for the new year.  I thought about that for a bit and decided for 2014 I was going to focus on HAPPY.  I am a brutally honest person and with that comes bluntness, sarcasm, etc so when I told my coworkers that my 'theme' is happy they all laughed at me.  I said no, wait a minute, I am still going to be true to myself but I am going to focus my energy on those things that make me happy...crafting, spending time with my husband, reading a good book, etc and the negative things in my life (work stress, people who don't like me, etc) will be pushed aside for the things that make me happy.  So that being said here is the card I created but was unable to post for challenge 125:

Thank you for stopping by to take a look.  I hope you have a HAPPY day!  Leslie
