CAS(E) this Sketch #56

This is my first time participating in a challenge from CAS(E) this sketch! blog.  I have admired their blog for a while but never gave myself the time to participate.  This weekend I needed to make a card for my mother-in-laws birthday and everything right now is very much geared to Christmas and Valentine's Day (already!?!) so this was the perfect inspiration that I needed to make her card.

I immediately thought of my recently purchased Stitching Lines Dies from Papertrey Ink - what a great match to this sketch.

For the card above (my mother-in-laws card) I used PTI White cardstock, those wonderful dies, PTI Raspberry Fizz ink, Sew Easy Floss the Pink and Red collection, my Wink of Stella pen was used to add glitter to the sentiment and the sentiment itself is from PTI Birthday Bash Sentiments stamp set.

The card above was my next creation.  The colors are Sew Easy Orange and Yellow sets, the ink is PTI Summer Sunrise and the sentiment is from PTI Funky Florals set (limited edition - no longer available).  You can really see that Wink of Stella sparkle here.

And to have a masculine birthday card on hand I used the Sew Easy Blue and Aqua trio for this card with PTI Blueberry Sky ink and another sentiment from the Birthday Bash Sentiment set. Again...Wink of Stella

PTI Make It Monday #133

The inspiration for this challenge is located here at Nichole Heady's blog. 

I didn't have any paste to use with my stencil so I went to Michaels to get some and they were out - hmmmmm, around Stamp-a-faire my local Michaels was out of a lot of those supplies too I wonder how many PTI fans there are in the Melbourne, Cocoa, Rockledge, FL area? Anyway, here are my two cards:

The first one I made using the Moroccan Stencil from Simon Says Stamps.  

I then noticed that the instructions for the challenge emphasized the use of a cover plate for the stencil and a PTI product so I went back to the drawing board and created card number two using Happy Harlequins cover plate.  I smudged a bit with the stencil - it was made out of paper - so I covered the smudges with a strip of white cardstock popped up with foam squares.

Majority of the supplies are the same between both cards.  PTI White cardstock, Thanks All Ways stamp set and Simply Chartreuse ink.  On card one the Simon Says Stamps products are the Moroccan Stencil and the border stamp from Cupcake Party stamp set.  I love to emboss over my sentiments with Ranger Rainbow Embossing powder.  The green paint I used with the stencils is Silks Shimmer Semi-gloss Acrylic Glaze in Pretty Peridot - great match to Simply Chartreuse.  Below is an up close picture of the glaze and the rainbow embossing:

Mixed Mists PTI, project #2

The link on PTI's website is not allowing me to post both projects in the same post so here is a new one for the second Mixed Mists project I completed:

 The second card I used just the Aqua Mist spray.  I did a very monotone card this time with only Aqua Mist ink and Aqua Mist and White cardstock.  The stamp was Funky Florals in versamark with white emboss for resist purposes; I think this looks like the white parts of dandelion flowers. The sentiment is from Framed Out #1 and the frame is from Framed Out #12.

Papertrey Ink Stamp-a-faire 2013

Whew - what a long weekend!!  I told my hubby weeks ago that I was going to do the entire Stamp-a-faire that Papertrey Ink does annually instead of last year where I just did a few projects and don't even remember if I posted any of them.  For details check out their website shown below or click on each of the underlined headings below to be taken to the website showing videos, techniques and the design team's projects:

 First - the meet and greet

I am participating alone as none of my friends or family do papercrafting.  Here are a few pictures of my space before total chaos.  There is one of my favorite helpers, Socks, who loved to steal my seat.  She will rush into the room ahead of me and jump right up.

 

 I started off with a list of cards that I need in the next few weeks to keep myself on target.  I want to clarify that I didn't do the projects in order (I sure tried) but I did do a new project for each challenge...that is what this is to be a challenge, learn new techniques, etc not post the same card for three different techniques.  Ok - soap box done :)

 7 am Breakfast Bake and Take

I was actually up on Saturday at 6:30 so I got moving right from the get go.  My hubby got up around then too but was out of my way by 8 to go help his parents move.   This first challenge was a quick one; color recipe and a sketch recipe.  I selected the recipes below and created the following card:

This just screamed baby boy to me so I did just that; card number one is not on my list of needed cards...oh well.  I stamped 'Little One' on vellum from the Mega Mixed Messages set in Staz-on Blue ink.  The circles are Sketched Shapes stamp set on White PTI cardstock punched out with 1" scallop circle Martha Stewart punch.  I used all of the inks shown in the color recipe.

8 am Tea Staining Technique

For this challenge I didn't start on Friday by soaking my muslin and felt I started soaking on Saturday so I didn't do this card until Sunday.  I tried both a strip of cheapy white felt and two small pieces of muslin in a bowl of instant coffee and the same a bowl of regular store-brand black tea.  The felt didn't really stain at all; the muslin however worked out great.  

I used one piece of the coffee stained muslin for this project.  I stamped with Dark Chocolate using Background Basics - Text Styles and then Melon Berry and Plum Pudding inks with Simon Says Stamps - Cupcake Party circle stamp with small dot.  I die cut with Beautiful Blooms II #2 dies and the very small flower from Lovely Layers die set and sewed them together with Sew Easy floss in Quick Sand with a Melon Berry, Plum Pudding and Dark Chocolate button.  I stamped the leaves from the Embroidered Blooms set with Simply Chartreuse and the sentiment is also from that set in Ripe Avocado.  I love how this turned out.  This will be my in-laws anniversary card for next week and I will totally be doing this more often.

10 am Rolled Dough Designs

Again, I didn't start this on Friday as suggested in the Meet and Greet post because I wanted to see the videos and design team projects before I decided what I wanted to do.  I am glad I waited because I used the Heart Prints stamp to impress in the paperclay.  Once it was dry on Sunday I used reinkers, water and a paintbrush to do some ombre coloring.  (Pure Poppy, Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst and Sweet Blush).  I then painted on a thin coat of Crystal Stickles by Ranger.  Once that was dry I used one of the sketches from the first challenge to prepare my card.  Paper is all PTI; white, pure poppy, sweet blush and hibiscus burst pattern paper.

Noon - Mixing Mists to Match

I mixed up two different spray mists; Aqua Mist and Hibiscus Burst.  I happened to have a pack of Ranger Mini Misters sitting unused so I put them to work.  I did two projects.

On the first one I followed Nichole's video by stamping Quilled Elegance with versamark ink, embossing it with white powder, misting the lower portion with Hibiscus Burst and the upper with Aqua Mist.  Then I colored in pieces of the design with the Scarlet Jewel and Raspberry Fizz reinkers and water as paint.  I stamped the sentiment in Raspberry Fizz and then again with Ranger Rainbow embossing powder (my favorite).

The second card I used just the Aqua Mist spray.  I did a very monotone card this time with only Aqua Mist ink and Aqua Mist and White cardstock.  The stamp was Funky Florals in versamark with white emboss for resist purposes; I think this looks like the white parts of dandelion flowers. The sentiment is from Framed Out #1 and the frame is from Framed Out #12.

2 pm - Sprinkle of Salt

I got a lot of use out of the Funky Florals set as I used it again for this card.  I have never seen this technique before and I didn't like how it was turning out but in the end I loved the finished product.  At first everything was too square and plain; so I rounded the corners of the white and green, added Background Basics Text Style to the New Leaf green card stock with New Leaf ink.  Then I kind of did a sloppy swipe of Summer Sunrise ink around the edge of the white.

Again I referred back to the sketches from the morning as I needed inspiration. The colors are Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise (my new fav and I don't like Orange), Canyon Clay and New Leaf.  I used the Notched Flowers dies to cut out the flowers, stamped them, and then did the school glue/salt technique.  Once they were dry, I used the Harvest Gold reinker to touch the salt as shown in the sample video.  Oh yeah - the leaves were from the Boutique Borders - Father and the sentiment from Signature Greetings.  This salt technique was quite fun; I am sure I will be doing it again.

3 pm - Gallon:Quart:Pint Challenge

For this one I also pulled color inspiration and the sketch from the morning post:

 

Here I go with Embroidered Bloom again.  The Ocean Tides is my 'gallon', Berry Sorbet is my 'quart' and Dark Chocolate is my 'pint'.  The square frame and border stamp are Framed Out #1, sentiment from Congrats All Ways, restamped with versamark and Rainbow embossing powder.

4 pm - Custom Accents from the Oven

I was most excited about this one but it turned out to be my least favorite.  I will experiment with Shrinky Dinks again and hopefully get better results.  The was a Sunday project.  Again, used a color and sketch recipe from challenge 1.

I used Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Small Circle S4-125 (the largest circle) and Staz-on Black to stamp the Congrats from Congrats All Ways.  I heated it with my heat tool in a cardboard box as Ashley showed in her video.  I really liked how it turned out but then I tried to color it to the Winter Wisteria color and that was when it went south.  I ended up using a Copic marker to start then stamped the actual ink on the back and then covered it up with white acrylic paint.  Again, turned out ok but my least favorite.

6 pm - Whipping up Scent-sational Cards

After work on Friday I went to pick up my last few supplies and for the life of me I couldn't find Kool-aid and was just ready to head home so I ended up going back to the instant coffee that we have in the pantry (we don't drink coffee but I needed it for a recipe at the holidays).  It was the only scent that I had that made sense with a stamp that I own.  I did get to use my new Cuttlebug embossing folder that I bought at Michaels on clearance. 

PTI Vintage Cream cardstock, Michaels Kraft, Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Fizz ink, Heart 2 heart #1 stamps and die.  It really does work as a scratch and sniff. 

8 pm - Limited Ingredients Challenge

This one terrified me the most and was the last one that I completed late Sunday afternoon.  The colors, Aqua Mist, Melon Berry and Harvest Gold are three colors that I would never have put together.  I was ready to take a break when I opened my new goodies from Simon Says Stamps and saw the September stamp set Life is a Journey jumped out and grabbed me.  I knew that the zig-zag stamp was perfect!  I really love how this turned out.  Paper, ink, stamp, paper cutter and adhesive...viola...I surprised myself with this one!

10 pm - Sweet Sugar Coated Embellishments

Like I said i didn't do these in order but I was doing this one around 10:45 on Saturday night - I am so glad my hubby was asleep because I got glitter everywhere.  Thank goodness for swiffer floor cloths, picked up ton's of very fine glitter.  

I used a color combo and sketch from the upcoming blog hop - I hope that was ok; I will NOT be resubmitting the card for the hop and I don't think that is right.  I used 1/4" ScoreTape, pressed it down, sprinkled the ArtMinds Irridescent glitter that I picked up from Michaels (need to order the glitter from PTI next time I order) and then colored it with the following Copics.  RV13, Y17, YR68, B01 and BG13 - I tried to use a color from the combos that coordinate with the colors from the sketch but I don't have the exact ones so I got as close as possible.  The sentiment is from Signature Greetings in Hawaiian Shores ink all on white PTI cardstock.

Closing pictures

I try very hard to clean up as I go along and with two cats it is almost necessary or they will take off with my supplies.  So I leave you with a picture of the box of my stamps and papers that need to be put away.  I am very happy I did this.  I got my list of cards that I needed almost complete.  I need an anniversary card for my sister and brother-in-law and I have a vision using the Shrinky Dinks so I will tinker with that during the next few weeks (anniversary is at the end of September).  

 Also, I do typically play along with the Make-It-Monday videos when they inspire me but I have a heck of a time making myself post them.  Here are two cards I made with the white crayon resist - I actually used white color pencil.  The stamp is a Studio G from the dollar bid somewhere.  I used post-its to do some masking and Blueberry Sky for the cake with Lemon Tart for the 'rays of light' coming from the candles.

 Thanks for looking and I truly appreciate comments and feedback.  I will be doing this again next year and might even remember to order the 'kit' on the day they sell it!!  Two very long days and work tomorrow...time for bed.

PTI Make It Monday #122 - Polka Dot Texture with Copic Markers

Hello and Happy Sunday!  I have been thinking about this Papertrey Ink challenge all week and wondering what I would do for my entry.  I have Copics but I haven't used them much so I am happy to see a challenge that includes them because they were quite an investment and the more you use them the better you get...so on to the challenge.

I searched through my stash of stamps trying to find one I could color or a die cut that I could use similar to Heather's inspiration with the Whale but I chose a stamp that was new to me from Inky Antics that I picked up at my local Michaels a few weeks back.

PTI Make It Monday #107 - Clear Card

I was so excited by the video for this weeks Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink - a clear card base.  What an interesting concept.  I didn't have clear cardstock but I did have a whole box of overhead transparencies that my mom picked up for me at a yard sale a few months back that, come to find out, were never opened.  At first I thought they weren't going to work as they were a little flimsy but once I got the paper adhered it worked great.

Last week was my husband's 40th birthday and our 4th wedding anniversary so I threw him a small surprise party with our families and needed some thank you cards.  I knew I wanted to use my recently purchased Embroidered Blooms stamp set but it was the MIM video that gave me the vision.  I didn't do any Copic coloring but that was just an option to the challenge; required were one PTI product and a clear card base...check and check.
